About this place
A meal of yakiniku at Toukouen might start with premium skirt steak or kalbi, accompanied by kimchi or namul and a bowl of white rice. One diner enjoyed the premium skirt steak enough to order more; the menu lists the salt-grilled version at ¥1,850. An assortment of kimchi costs ¥700, or you can order napa cabbage kimchi, cucumber oi-kimchi or radish kkakdugi separately. Another way to enjoy the meal is to stir gochujang into the dipping sauce and savour the sweet-spicy combination with meat and rice.
For a final dish, there is stone-bowl bibimbap with soup (¥1,350) or a smaller bibimbap with soup (¥450). Some diners say they always order the stone-bowl version, while others choose the smaller one to finish after yakiniku, making it easy to match the portion to your appetite. Recorded orders also include cold noodles and yukgaejang gukbap, so the choices range from chilled noodles to soup with rice and hot stone-bowl bibimbap.
At lunchtime, kalbi and loin sets each cost ¥1,300 and come with salad, pickles, namul and seaweed soup. For a more substantial yakiniku set, there are premium kalbi and premium loin sets, each ¥2,200, with the same sides and soup. In the Gakugei-daigaku area, Toukouen offers options for everything from a lunchtime set meal to an evening of grilled meat. Reservations are recommended for dinner, so consider booking if you are planning to eat with a group.
